Transactional Analysis

Introduction

Transactional Analysis is a form of psychotherapy that examines relationships and interactions. In therapy it is used to address one’s interactions and communications with the purpose of establishing and reinforcing the idea that each individual has the capacity for change and personal growth. The core philosophy of TA is that:

· people are OK – you and I have worth, value and dignity

· everyone has the capacity to think – we have a responsibility to decide what we want from life and we ultimately live with the consequences

· people decide their own destiny but these decisions can be changed – based on our upbringing we came to conclusions about ourselves, others and life and we live according to these conclusions. However, these conclusions can be changed.

Principles

We take joint responsibility as therapist and client for the changes we want to make. We relate on equal terms. Our contract is an agreement on both sides to take responsibility to work towards an agreed goal

· full and open communication about the work we are doing

Treatment, how can therapy help you?

Day to day life can be complex and demanding, so it’s not uncommon to experience a sense of disconnection or unhappiness. Therapy can help you work through and unravel these problems.

The purpose of my approach is to alleviate emotional and psychological distress. I do this by offering you a safe and confidential space to explore what is troubling or disturbing you. My ethos is to provide clients with the tools they need to discover their own internal resources and to develop their emotional resilience. Gaining clarity allows my clients to make better and more informed choices for themselves and within their relationships. I am particularly interested in working with clients with anxiety, helping them cultivate a strong foundation to lower and maintain their anxiety levels.

I will explore and guide you through your distress during our sessions, and together we can significantly reduce suffering and improve emotional wellbeing, leading to a more fulfilling life.

The importance of therapy

Taking care of our health – both physical and mental is of fundamental importance. Seeking therapy should be as accessible and normal as buying a coffee from Starbucks or going to the gym.

A one-to-one session allows an objective, non-judgemental time in which one can talk freely and openly about things that have been of concern; guided, all the while, with insight from a trained professional counsellor or psychotherapist.
